(Washington D.C.) – President Donald Trump is rolling back security details for several former government leaders – including the former infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci, who made headlines during the Coronavirus pandemic. Dr. Fauci became a target for conservatives on Capitol Hill due to his response to the pandemic and his tumultuous relationship with President Donald Trump.
Dr. Fauci retired from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases after half a century in government in December 2022. Trump rolled back the security detail for Fauci along with security for former secretary of state, Mike Pompeo and former national security adviser, John Bolton. The cuts were originally suggested by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul on social media saying Fauci “needs to pay for his own limos”. Trump agreed and rolled back on the tax-payer funded security for the officials who no longer work in government.
