Quit? Or Return to the Office?

A new survey says around half of all remote workers would quit their jobs rather than return to the office. January 24, 2025.

(Washington, DC) – There’s a new survey out surrounding “working from home,” in these years following the COVID-19 pandemic, with many returning to the office in person. According to Pew Research, almost half of remote workers say they’d quit if forced to come back in to work.

Of those same respondents, 75% say they work from home one day or more per week — provided their job allows for remote work. Specifically, 46% say they’d ditch their current gig if the boss said it was time to come back to the office — full time. From there, 25% say it’d be very likely they’d quit if forced to come back in person.

Just this week, President Trump issued an executive order calling for federal workers to stop working from home. It ordered agencies to immediately begin doing away with the practice as soon as possible. Trump also froze all government hiring, barring all agencies from filling vacancies, and ordering them to make more efficient use of what they have. The freeze doesn’t apply to the military, immigration enforcement, national security or public safety.
