(San Diego, CA) – With President Trump back in the White House, immigration officials are making moves toward deporting recently arrived migrants who illegally entered the country. And on the other side of the Southern border, Mexican officials are now constructing tent shelters — to prepare for potential mass deportations.
The tents are being set up near the border and will provide temporary housing for individuals who are deported. Also, Trump has re-enacted his “remain in Mexico” plan, which requires that officials seeking asylum wait in Mexico while their cases are heard. In addition, President Trump sent 10,000 troops to the US southern border in order to support operations.
A government memo circulated internally indicates the Border Patrol’s agents will shut off access to the US for “asylum seekers.” Department of Defense bases will also be utilized as a spot for holding migrants who are awaiting deportation. And while the controversial CBP One border app has been shut down — it allowed migrants to set up a meeting requesting asylum — Mexico has launched an app to help detained migrants access legal resources and support.
