What’s This Stargate AI Investment?

syndication-usa-today-339

Some school districts say they have begun to incorporate artificial intelligence programs into their curriculum. They're also having to balance AI's benefits with the risks posed, like with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which can generate entire essays with ease.

(Washington, DC) – Artificial intelligence has been dominating the news headlines. In terms of the latest tech advancements, changes to existing industries, and perhaps most especially amid investors — there’s a lot of optimism surrounding AI. In fact, many Wall Street watchers say investor enthusiasm for AI — and the fear of missing out on the “next big thing” helped stocks reach new highs in 2024.

Now, even more investment capital is flowing into the sector — with a $500 billion investment into AI infrastructure. Dubbed “the Stargate Project,” it will begin by building out massive data centers in Texas. Major names in tech and artificial intelligence are participating, including NVIDIA, Microsoft, Oracle, ARM, OpenAI, and Japan’s SoftBank.

On his first day in office, President Trump repealed a Biden-era rule rooted in maintaining AI safety. And to be sure, many have expressed concerns about the downside associated with AI — and the prospect of it eventually being used for bad means, or growing past human control. But others have suggested there is a stunning aspect of “unlimited potential” regarding AI — including the optimistic hope a major expanse of the technology could even lead to a cure for cancer.
