A life-size animated singing snowman looks in its element in the front lawn of a house in East Hill as snow falls in Pensacola on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.

(Jacksonville, FL)  — We have frigid temps and snow here in New York City, but we are used to it, down South, where the temps average 60 to 70 degrees this time of year, they have been clobbered by a blizzard that has set records. In the Florida Panhandle, a nearly 70-mile stretch of Interstate 10 has been shut down from a snowstorm. Parts of northern Florida have a foot of a snow on the ground today. In New Orleans, 10 inches of snow has fallen, closing down the city because they have almost no snow removal equipment. At least 30 million Americans are under some sort of snowstorm warning.

Temperatures across the New York and New Jersey have been below 20 degrees for two straight days. Governor Phil Murphy has issued a Code Blue in all of New Jersey’s 21 counties. That means the homeless can be forced off the street and into shelters. Same goes for New York City. Emergency Management officials on both side of the Hudson are urging people to avoid staying out in the cold for too long, especially if they’re not wearing the right clothing.
