(New York, NY)  — 100 NYPD cops began riding subways overnight last night to make New Yorkers feel safer. It’s part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s new subway safety plan that will soon have two officers riding all 150 subway trains overnight between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.  Hundreds more police officers will be on subway platforms and in stations. Overall subway crime is down but there’s been a series of violent subway attacks as of late, and Hochul is hoping her new plan will help riders feel better about being on trains overnight.

Governor Hochul also wants to get LED lighting in all stations by the end of the year and platform protective barriers will eventually be installed at 100 more stations.
