(Albany, NY) — Governor Kathy Hochul is unveiling her 252-billion-dollar proposed budget for fiscal year 2026. She says it’ll deliver more than five-billion-dollars in tax cuts, credits and refunds to New Yorkers.
It includes 300-dollar inflation refunds for individuals and 500-dollars for families. Hochul’s spending plan also triples the child tax credit, providing up to 1,000-dollars for each child under the age of four. Hochul says doing all that, plus providing free breakfast and lunches to all New York school kids, will put nearly 5,000-dollars in the pockets of many New York families.
The Governor is also prioritizing public safety, including gun violence prevention and a police officer subway surge. You’ll see two officers riding every overnight subway train. The plan also includes more officers on subway platforms and in stations and subway platform barriers.
She also discussed creating distraction-free schools with statewide bell-to-bell restrictions on electronic devices in K-12 Classrooms. The fiscal year starts April 1st.
