(Bordentown, NJ) – Bob Dylan wanted Mr. Tambourine Man to play a song for him. Now, lyrics Dylan originally penned at a home in New Jersey have sold for big bucks at auction.
Back in 1964, Dylan wrote a draft of lyrics to “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and then tossed them in the trash can. Rock journalist Al Aronowitz recovered them from the trash and held on to them for years. Following his death in 2005, the lyrics passed on to Aronowitz’ children. They then sold the lyrics at auction and they went for $508,000.
Of course it’s a good time to be in receipt of Dylan’s memorabilia, as there’s been renewed interest in the singer-songwriter amid the film telling his story — starring Timothée Chalamet.
Other Dylan items were sold at the same auction, including a Fender Telecaster guitar — which went for over $220,000. An abstract oil painting from Dylan sold for $260,000.
