(New York, NY) — New Yorkers were up early Monday, scrapping and shoveling snow off cars and sidewalks from the first storm of 2025.  Two to five inches of snow fell across the Tri-State. The storm came in during the early evening hours Sunday, and moved out around midnight. That gave crews lots of time to clear main roadways ahead of a morning commute that was light due the the Martin Luther King Jr holiday.

Now the deep freeze has moved in. Temperatures will not get out of the 20s during the day for most of the week. Highs are not expected to be back above freezing in the New York area until Friday.

The city has issued a Code Blue Alert to try to move homeless New Yorkers off the streets and into safe spaces. They’re also issued tips on dealing with frigid temps including dressing in warm, dry layers if you have to go out and making sure all exposed skin is covered. That includes your nose, earlobes and fingertips because prolonged exposure to cold can lead to frostbite, hypothermia and worsen heart and lung conditions.
