(New York, NY) – Subway service on the A train is suspended in parts of Queens for the next several months. Trains are not running between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue or Rockaway Park-Beach 116 Street. Rockaway Park Shuttle trains are also suspended. It is part of a scheduled shut down to repair tracks with lingering debris and damage from Superstorm Sandy in the Rockaways. The project is also focused on preparing for the next big storm.
The shutdown lasts through the end of May. MTA Chair Janno Lieber says the project will also help trains run more reliably and this shutdown is the fastest way to get the job done. In the meantime the MTA is offering free shuttle bus services in the affected areas and the Long Island Railroad is offering discounted rates at the Far Rockaway Station.
