(New York, NY) — It’s been a parking nightmare for many in Manhattan since congestion pricing began. In Washington Heights, neighbors say they are seeing a lot of New Jersey license plates taking spots. They are likely drivers coming over the George Washington Bridge, finding a spot nearby and then taking a subway downtown, all in a bid to avoid the nine dollar toll. Same goes for the Upper West Side, where neighbors say drivers are parking right above the congestion pricing zone at 60th Street to save nine dollars.
The MTA says lots of drivers are leaving their cars at home. They say driving in the congestion pricing zone is faster than it’s been in years.
Several New York lawmakers opposed to congestion pricing are working with President-elect Trump to end it. Staten Island Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis says the president-elect is exploring any possible way to turn off the tolling system.
