(New York, NY) – The corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams has a new development with a recent guilty plea. Erden Arkan entered the plea in Manhattan federal court on Friday. Arkan owns the company KSK Construction and has close ties to the Turkish government. The businessman is one of two to be charged connected to the Adams corruption case. Adams was charged in September with a five-count federal indictment accusing him of accepting illegal campaign contributions.
Arkan says he held a fundraiser and solicited his employees to make straw donations. The New York Times reports that one of the employees put his wife’s name on the check to the campaign. Those donations totaled $69,000 and made the campaign eligible for another $63K thanks to the city’s matching funds program. Judge Dale Ho set an August 15th sentencing date. Arkan is facing five years in federal probation and a quarter-million-dollar fine.
