(Atlanta, GA) — Americans have been paying their respects to the late President Jimmy Carter, who’s body lies in repose at the Carter Center in Atlanta today. The 39th president died last week in his home state of Georgia at the age of 100.
On Tuesday, the late president’s coffin, along with his family will then travel to Washington, DC, where he will be taken by horse-drawn carriage to the U.S. Capitol for a ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda. There, he will lie in state for public viewing from seven pm until midnight. Jimmy Carter’s state funeral will take place Thursday at the National Cathedral in D.C
Flags at all Nassau County buildings will be lowered to half-staff this week, in honor of the late President. That announcement comes from County Executive Bruce Blakeman, about a week after Governor Kathy Hochul ordered flags at half-staff statewide. Blakeman says flags will be lowered today and remain that way through Thursday when the former president is laid to rest. Blakeman has received some blow back from lawmakers who believe he should follow the federal guidelines and keep flags lowered for thirty days. He told Sid, on “Sid and Friends in the Morning” that thirty days is just too long.
