(Ramsey, NJ) — Students in Ramsey, New Jersey will go phone-free as they return to class this week from winter break. A new policy requires phones and other devices to be stored in special locked pouches during the school day. They can only be unlocked in designated areas, such as the cafeteria. Parents who need to reach their kids will have to leave a message at the office.
High school students will have to bring the pouch to and from school each day. They can bring the pouch to class, but if phones are taken out they could be confiscated. Ramsey school superintendent Dr. Andrew Matteo says a phone-free school day will help students focus on learning. The special pouches will be distributed to students this week. The policy goes into effect on Thursday.
