(Washington, DC) — Congress will meet today to certify the results of the 2024 election that saw Donald Trump win the White House. Members of the House and Senate will meet at 1 p.m. to count the electoral votes from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with Vice President Kamala Harris reading aloud each state’s results.
The U.S. Capitol Police say heavy security is in place for the counting and certification of the electoral vote, four years after a mob attacked the capitol in an effort to disrupt certification of President Biden’s win. Since 2021, Congress has reformed the laws to make it more difficult for members of Congress to challenge a state’s electors.
