(Atlanta, GA) – Ceremonies have begun to celebrate and commemorate the life of former President Jimmy Carter. There is a six-day funeral schedule for the late commander-in-chief starting with a motorcade through his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Public viewings will take place at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta. Those public viewings last through Tuesday, after that Carter’s body will lie in state at the Rotunda of the US Capitol in Washington D.C.
The events conclude with a private burial in Plains, where a motorcade will once again ride past the public. A National Day of Mourning has been declared on January 9th. In New York State, flags have been flying at half-mast in honor of the late president.
