(New York, NY) — Former NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey has been suspended from the department. That’s according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch who says her team is working with the Internal Affairs Bureau and other law enforcement to investigate allegations against Maddrey.
It comes after federal law enforcement agents raided several locations, including Maddrey’s home in Queens. Tisch says the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is handling the matter. Maddrey resigned last month after being accused of sexual misconduct.
Maddrey now admits that he had a sexual relationship with a subordinate. But he says he did not demand sex from Lieutenant Quathisha Epps in exchange for extra overtime. In his first interview since the scandal broke, Maddrey says the relationship “absolutely consensual,” calling it “an office fling.” He adds, however, that it “wasn’t appropriate” and was part of the reason he decided to step down.
