Update: Death Toll Rises in New Orleans Attack

(New Orleans, LA) — The FBI believes the suspect who drove through a crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans early New Year’s Day was not acting alone. FBI spokesperson Alethea Duncan identified the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, who was a U.S-born citizen from Texas. An ISIS flag was found on the trailer hitch of the pickup truck he used to kill at least 15 people and injure dozens more. She said weapons and Improvised Explosive Devices were located in the vehicle. The agency is calling this an act of terrorism.

Duncan said that after the man drove through the crowd, he exchanged fire with two police officers. They returned fire and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two officers were injured and taken to local hospitals.

Four people who were believed to be planting explosives in the French Quarter of New Orleans are being ruled out as suspects.  Earlier reports said investigators were reviewing video that may have shown three men and a woman placing the explosive devices.  Investigators also believe the suspect, an Army veteran from Texas, did not act alone.
