(Jackson, MS) – At least four people are dead as the result of severe storms in the Southern US over the weekend. Throughout Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas, more than 30 tornadoes were recorded. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves confirmed at least two of the deaths were in his state.
A local sheriff’s office confirmed a death in Texas. A North Carolina man by the name of Matthew Ronald Teeple was killed by a tree that fell on his truck during heavy rain.
The severe weather left over 20 million people at risk from the eastern Gulf Coast to the Carolinas. In addition to tornadoes, heavy rain, damaging winds, and hail were reported. Headed into the weekend, more than 45-hundred flights had been delayed or canceled across the US as of midday. For the impacted states, today will be a day of cleanup and recovery.
