(Seoul, South Korea) – Officials in South Korea say there are only two survivors after a plane made a crash landing and burst into flames early Sunday morning. Video shows the plane skidding across the runway after the landing gear failed. The plane then exploded after veering off the landing strip. The passenger plane from Bangkok was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members.
Two of those crew members were pulled from the tail of the twin engine Boeing 737-800 aircraft. South Korean officials believe that birds are to blame for this disaster. An investigation to determine the official cause is underway. The NTSB and a team from Boeing will be among those assisting the investigation. South Korea has declared a national period of mourning for the victims and their families until January 4th.
