Mets Bring Back Key Starting Pitcher

Oct 13, 2024; Los Angeles, California, USA; New York Mets pitcher Sean Manaea (59) speaks to the media before game one of the NLCS for the 2024 MLB Playoffs at Dodger Stadium.

(Queens, NY) – It’s an Amazin time to be Sean Manaea. The 33-year-old lefty just signed a three-year, $75 million to rejoin the New York Mets — more than doubling his career earnings to date.

Manaea, who has also pitched with the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics, pitched at a very high level in the second half of the season with New York. He notably dropped his arm angle after watching a start by fellow-lefty and eventual Cy Young winner Chris Sale. That led to at times dominant results from Manaea.

Overall, he posted a 12 win and six loss record with a 3.47 ERA, along with 184 Ks in 182 and 2/3rds innings pitched. Manaea figures to be part of a six-man rotation for the Mets, headed by himself, righty Kodai Senga, and lefty David Peterson.

Earlier this offseason, Manaea got married, so it’s been a big 2024 for him in many ways. He and former San Francisco Fire Department paramedic Talat Mirmalek tied the knot. It also continues a big-spending clip for the Mets, after inking Juan Soto to a record-setting 15 year, $765 million deal — in the process taking him away from the cross-town rival Yankees. Former Yankees right hander Clay Holmes has also joined the Mets and plans to convert from a reliever to starter in Queens.
