(New York, NY) – Monday is another day in court for Luigi Mangione — the alleged murderer — who has become an internet celebrity in some circles. A 26-year-old Ivy League school graduate, Mangione is accused of using a pistol to gun down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024. He was then arrested just under a week later in Altoona, Pennsylvania, at a McDonald’s.
Last week, Mangione was extradited to New York City in high-profile fashion — first by plane, then helicopter to Lower Manhattan. He was officially charged with federal crimes in relation to the Midtown Manhattan shooting, which took place as dawn was breaking, outside the Hilton Hotel. Thompson was set to speak at an investor’s conference.
Mangione will now face state charges, as brought by a Manhattan grand jury. The federal charges could leave him eligible for the death penalty. Meanwhile, some women have expressed their fondness for the alleged killer — as he is tall, handsome, and dark-haired. He also expressed prominent left-wing views against capitalism and corporate America — including aspects of the healthcare and insurance industry.
