On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, cops said they'd linked physical evidence to the man suspected of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

(New York, NY) – Authorities are building their case against the man accused in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. It was Wednesday December 4 during the early morning hours when 26-year-old Luigi Mangione allegedly used a pistol to fatally shoot the 50-year-old Thompson. A manhunt ensued, and Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Cops have presented surveillance camera images, saying they show Mangione — both before, during, and after the crime. It was outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan where Thompson was killed. He was in New York City for an investor’s conference. During a private service in his home state of Minnesota, he was laid to rest this week.

When Mangione was arrested, police said he had a gun on him, as well as a fake ID, and a manifesto of some kind. Reportedly, both the manifesto and Mangione’s online activity point to disillusionment with corporate America, the healthcare industry, and insurance companies like UnitedHealthcare.

Now, the NYPD reports they’ve linked fingerprints from the murder scene to the suspect. Allegedly, prints found on a water bottle and a protein bar wrapped match Mangione’s. Cops also say shell casings recovered at the scene match the pistol Mangione had on his person when arrested.

Held without bail in Pennsylvania, Mangione is fighting extradition to New York. He faces murder charges in Manhattan and other charges in Pennsylvania.
