(New York, NY) – A suspect has been arrested in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. After Thompson was shot dead last Wednesday outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, a massive manhunt ensued — spanning the Tri-state and the surrounding area. Then, some five days after the fact, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione was spotted and stopped at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Apparently, a vigilant employee recognized Mangione after the NYPD had released surveillance camera images — both last week, and then again over the weekend. The images were both masked and unmasked — some taken inside a youth hostel on the Upper West Side, and then again from a taxi cab. Reports have stated that the suspect may have taken a bus from Atlanta to New York City prior to the killing. Afterward, he may have fled the city via a bus.
Reports say that Mangione was in possession of a firearm similar to the one used in the killing last week. He also had some kind of manifesto on him, and a fake New Jersey ID that may have been used to check in at the youth hostel. A valedictorian and graduate of a prep high school, Mangione reportedly has ties to the Towson, Maryland area. Reports have also described him as a “tech whiz.”
