(Toms River, NJ) — Those car sized drones were spotted again over the weekend. This time on Staten Island and down the Jersey Shore. Police in Ocean County caught video of the drones, but have no idea who is piloting them. Some local lawmakers say the FBI and Homeland Security need to reveal what they know about the mysterious drones, that have been spotted over police stations and military installations over the last two weeks. Residents in communities including Middletown, Toms River, Lavallette, Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights have all reported sightings of drones in recent days. Middletown Mayor Tony Perry says six drones were spotted near Naval Weapons Station Earle on Friday night.
Retired four-star general and NBC News military analyst, Barry McCaffrey says the sightings are alarming. He believes the unmanned aircraft pose a significant threat. He also wants to know who is behind them and what information they might be gathering.
The FBI is leading an investigation into the origin of those drones which involves the Department of Homeland Security and the FAA. Drones have also been spotted flying over the Trump International Golf Course in Bedminster, water reservoirs, near military bases and 9-1-1 call centers. And now, New York City Congresswoman Nicole Maliotakis has released a statement saying they’ve also been sighted over Staten Island. She’s urging anyone who sees drone activity to immediately contact the FBI.
