(Bronx, NY) – It’s well known that certain neighborhoods in New York City are more crime-plagued than others. But Mayor Eric Adams says he’s confident that the city’s new pilot program can solve the issue, over the long term. It’s called “Every Block Counts,” and it specifically provides additional law enforcement resources to certain areas — that have historically dealt with higher levels of crime.

Both the NYPD’s 46th and 73rd precincts are the focus areas. The 4-6 precinct serves the western portion of the Bronx. Within its confines, Morris Avenue, Elm Place, and Walton Avenue have received beefed up patrols and other initiatives. The 73rd precinct, in Brooklyn, areas like Bristol Street, Christopher Avenue, Dumont Avenue, and several other streets have received a higher level of focus.

The pilot program was launched two months ago. City Hall says major crime has dropped 55% along the blocks in focus. In addition, not a single shooting has been reported. Mayor Adams says his administration is now pursuing an expansion of “Every Block Counts.”
