(Moscow, Russia) – Following a rebellion in his country, former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fled to Russia seeking asylum. The Russian foreign ministry announced that the leader resigned from power after groups took over the capital city of Damascus. Opposition forces claim the country has been liberated from President al-Assad’s 24-year reign. The US does have around 900 troops stationed in the country. President Biden spoke on the change in power at a press conference warning that this is a moment of risk as to who will rise to power. Russian state media says al-Assad and his family arrived in Russia and were granted asylum on humanitarian grounds.
