(Nassau) — The Bahamas is rejecting a proposal from President-elect Trump’s transition team to take in deported migrants. Prime Minister Philip Davis says after reviewing the plan, his country doesn’t have the resources. Instead, Davis says his government needs to focus on the needs of the Bahamian people. Trump’s team has reportedly reached out to several Caribbean countries with similar proposals. He ran on promises of mass deportations once he takes office next month.
Mayor Eric Adams is confirming he’ll cooperate with ICE, under certain circumstances, to deport illegal immigrants. Adams emphasized at a Tuesday news conference that he wants to see illegal migrants who rape, commit robberies or shoot at police officers be deported. But the Mayor also said he wants to know what President-elect Trump has in mind when he talks about mass deportations. Adams again said he hopes for a sit-down soon with Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan. But he also said, “I’m not going to be warring with this administration, I’m going to be working with the administration.”
