(Atlanta, GA) — Jimmy Carter’s grandson says the nation’s 39th President has not been that active as of late, but he’s still hanging on after spending almost two years in home hospice in Plains, Georgia. Jason Carter told the “Politically Georgia” podcast that the Carter family thought the former President might not have long after he entered hospice in February 2023. But now at age 100, he says Carter has good days where he’s pretty active and talking. But most days, he says, are spent sleeping.
Jason Carter said his grandfather is still following politics and the Israel-Hamas war, two things that are very close to his heart. The former president did not attend any of the birthday celebrations in his honor back in October, but he did fill out a ballot for the November presidential election. He voted for Vice-President Kamala Harris.
