(New York, NY) – Bodega owners and workers are rallying behind one worker in the Bronx currently facing gun charges in relation to the shooting of an armed robber. Jhonny Gomez Cordero was working the counter on November 28th when two masked men attempted to rob the store. Instead, one of them was shot in the foot by Cordero. Police are now saying the gun used in that self-defense shooting was illegal – prompting charges against the man. Cordero claims he found the gun in the bodega bathroom just two hours before the attempted robbery. Fernando Mateo, a rep for United Bodegas of America, claims that the organization will fight those charges on behalf of the worker.
