(New York, NY) – After controversy surrounding another cabinet nominee, President Elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering a new name for Defense Secretary. Originally, former Fox News personality and Army veteran Pete Hegseth, was the person tapped to lead the Pentagon. However, Hegseth continues facing backlash over allegations of sexual misconduct, drinking problems and financial mismanagement. The accusations have prompted members of the GOP to voice concerns about nominating Hegseth. NBC News reports that six Senate Republicans expressed their hesitation in supporting the nominee.
The latest update, coming from The Wall Street Journal, reports that Trump may pick a new name for defense secretary. One of the names being tossed around as a potential replacement – Florida governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis notably ran against Trump in the Republican presidential primary. Trump’s transition team has not made an official statement on the possible swap in nominees.
