(Queens, NY) — New York City officials are breaking ground on the city’s first soccer stadium at Willets Point in Queens!

Mayor Eric Adams says the new home of the New York City Football Club will put the city on the map as a world-class soccer destination, including with the co-hosting of the 2026 World Cup with New Jersey.

It’s part of the second phase of the Willets Point redevelopment project, which also includes the creation of affordable housing, a hotel, retail stores, public space and a new school out of the Valley of Ashes. The NYCFC is financing the fully electric stadium, which is expected to create thousands of construction and permanent jobs. It’s set to be fully operational in 2027.
