(New York, NY) – Some local New York legislators are looking to secede from the U.S. as a means to block President-elect Trump’s immigration plans. Democratic State Senator Liz Krueger has floated the idea of leaving the United States to join Canada, saying “It’s not unreasonable to think outside of the box.”
She adds that becoming a new province of Canada would take the burden off Canada from enforcing illegal border crossings. She also discussed withholding state federal taxes as a response to Trump’s warning that he may cut federal funding to New York if the state fights his illegal immigration deportation plans.
