(New York, NY) — President Biden wants to expand coverage for weight loss drugs like Ozempic. The White House is proposing a new rule that would require Medicare and Medicaid to offer coverage of medications like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. Right now, Medicare and Medicaid will only sometimes cover the prescription weight loss drugs, when they are used for their original purpose, fighting diabetes.
The White House says the new rule could expand access to the popular drugs to more than seven-million Americans who use Medicare or Medicaid. The rule would also greatly reduce the cost of the drugs, which can run a thousand dollars or more for a month’s supply.
