(New York, NY) — President Biden, along with First Lady Jill Biden will be on Staten Island this afternoon to attend a Friendsgiving dinner with members of the U.S. Coast Guard and their families. That means drivers are bracing for road closures and detours as the president’s motorcade passes through Father Capodanno Boulevard this evening. The Parks Department says Park and Rides along the boulevard are on pause until Tuesday morning.

Before he heads to New York, The president will pardon two turkeys at the White House. Peaches and Blossom, both from Minnesota, arrived in Washington, DC over the weekend and will be taken to meet President Biden. After receiving their pardon, the turkeys will be brought back to Minnesota to live out their lives at Farm America. The first turkey pardon is thought to have been issued by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, after his son Tad asked Lincoln to spare a turkey’s life ahead of the family’s Christmas dinner.
