(New York, NY) — It’s raining, and that’s definitely good news after almost two months of record dry weather, but New Jersey’s DEP commissioner, along with others are saying this day of showers will do very little to help with the drought. Commissioner Sean LaTourette says it will take months of normal or above normal rainfall to climb out the drought situation. The Manasquan Reservoir in New Jersey is very low. New Jersey Water Supply Authority officials say the reservoir dropped below 50 percent for the first time in about 30 years. It delivers 30 million gallons of water per day to Monmouth County residents.
Meanwhile, the heavy rain has prompted the MTA to deploy crews to flood prone locations in the subway system. New York Governor Kathy Hochul says the rain will help alleviate ongoing wildfires. Two to three inches of rain are expected to fall in the Mid-Hudson, New York City, and capital regions.
