(New York, NY) — Some Brooklynites want to know why a man, who threw a dog off a 14th floor balcony to it’s death in Crown Heights is not behind bars today. Police say Alberto Morris tossed the pit bull to it’s death earlier this month after getting into an argument with one of his neighbors in a building on Montgomery Street. He has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
Neighbors say they are horrified that someone could be so vicious and cruel to a dog. They say Morris should be locked up in the same way a person is for killing a human.
It’s rare that New Yorkers are sentenced to jail time for animal cruelty. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office says Morris is now out on supervised release. When is comes to animal cruelty, New York judges can dish out five-thousand-dollar fines, and in extreme cases put offenders in prison for up to two years.
