(New York, NY) – Mayor Adams has named Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch to serve as the NYPD’s latest top cop. Tisch, who previously served as “stats chief” within the department’s CompStat program, becomes just the second woman to serve as NYPD commissioner.
Thomas Donlon had been serving as interim NYPD commissioner. Tisch is set to become the fourth top cop under the Adams administration — after he originally chose Keechant Sewell to serve as the city’s first-ever female commissioner. Her replacement, Edward Caban, resigned under a cloud of suspicion — as his brother is being investigated for possible corruption.
Tisch called the appointment a special responsibility and honor. She will take over on Monday, November 25. She serve 12 years with the NYPD before joining the Department of Sanitation. Her father is James Tisch, who has served as CEO of the Loews Corporation since 1999.
