Should women share bathroom with transgender Congresswoman?

(Washington, D.C.) — When Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride is sworn in next year, she’ll be the first transgender member of Congress. And now, South Carolina Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace is trying to make sure McBride won’t be able to use the women’s restrooms at the U.S. Capitol. The bill would require House members and staff to use the bathroom that corresponds with their biological sex.

Republican leadership is considering the measure, with House Speaker Mike Johnson telling the press that they’re “working on the issue.” On the other side of the aisle, Democratic representatives are opposed. New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called it “just plain bullying,” while Vermont’s Becca Balint said “cruelty is the point.”
