(New York, NY) – A New Jersey man, Jaheem Warren, is facing murder charges for allegedly strangling a woman in broad daylight near a Times Square hotel. Authorities say Warren randomly chose 23-year old Leslie Torres from a crowd as she was walking along West 46th Street near Eighth Avenue on October 29. He reportedly attacked her outside the Riu Plaza New York Times Square hotel, leaving her unconscious on the sidewalk.
Hotel staff found Torres and called for help, but she passed away from her injuries a few days later. Torres had been staying at a nearby shelter, and officials do not believe she and Warren knew each other. Warren, who has a lengthy rap sheet, was recently arrested at his home in New Jersey.
