Here is why airlines have called off flights to Haiti

(Port-au-Prince, Haiti) — Spirit Airlines, Americans Airlines and JetBlue have all suspended flights to Haiti after two planes were hit by gunfire on Monday. One was a Spirit flight flying in from Fort Lauderdale. A bullet shot at the aircraft grazed a flight attendant. The plane was diverted to an airport in the Dominican Republic, where doctors tended to the injured worker  The other plane hit by bullets was a JetBlue flight. The damage to that plane wasn’t discovered until the plane returned to New York City.

Spirit is suspending flights pending further review. JetBlue is suspending flights through at least December 2nd. Meanwhile, the FAA has suspended all traffic into the capital Port-au-Prince through at least November 18th.
