(New York, NY) — President-elect Donald Trump has nominated New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Trump told the “New York Post” about his decision on Sunday. He says he’s honored to nominate Stefanik for the role, calling her strong and tough. Stefanik is expected to push Trump’s “America First” policy which presses allies to contribute more when it comes to shared defense efforts.

The upstate New York congresswoman has been a very strong ally of the president-elect. She also helped raise money for the GOP during the election cycle.

The 40-year-old told the “New York Post” that she is honored to have earned President-elect Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
