(New York, NY) – Someone at the Mattel Factory should have double-checked the website address listed on the new Wicked Movie Barbie Dolls. The promotional dolls for the main characters, Glinda and Elphaba, have a printed link on the box to a website – the only problem is the link is actually for a pornographic website.
The adaptation of the Broadway play is coming out this Thanksgiving, and several brands including Mattel, Lego and Betty Crocker have all launched collaborations. Mattel is the only brand that printed the link on the boxes and in the instruction booklet for the singing dolls. Users online first flagged the issue, Mattel has made an official statement: “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children.” They say anyone that bought the dolls with the error should get rid of the box.
