(New York, NY) – New Yorkers had a hazy weekend, and the origin was not Friday night’s brush fire in Prospect Park. Instead, the smoke came from wildfires in Passaic County. The Jennings Creek wildfire started in West Milford, New Jersey and crossed the state border into Orange County, New York. This prompted an Air Quality Index warning with officials urging people to limit outdoor activities.
The fire also killed a responding New York Forest Ranger that was stationed in Greenwood Lake. Authorities say he passed away after a tree fell on him. The fire has scorched through 2,500 acres as the Tri-State is experiencing a dry spell.
