(Paris) – For the first time since a major fire damaged Notre Dame in 2019, the legendary cathedral’s bells are ringing. The sound of the ringing bells erupted in Paris on Friday morning, marking the major milestone for the 855-year-old religious landmark. Three new bells were installed this week, as part of the cathedral’s $1 billion restoration.
For the past five years, crews have been diligently working to repair Notre Dame. Few can forget the stunning and heartbreaking images that emerged on that day in 2019 when fired consumed parts of the cathedral. Then, ahead of the weekend, all eight bells chimed — first individually — then together in a rousing chorus of bells. On December 8, next month, the landmark is scheduled to reopen.
From that point forward an estimated 14 to 15 million visitors are expected annually.
