(Washington, D.C.) –After election day, there are 76-days before Inauguration Day and the transferring of power from President Biden to his successor. There are three important dates between Election Day and Inauguration Day: December 11th, December 17th, and January 6th.
December 11th is the new national deadline for governors to certify the results of the presidential election and submit their slate of electors. December 17th, the electors will formally cast their ballots in state capitols for President.
And finally, January 6th is when members of the 119th Congress will count Electoral College ballots. The Electoral Count Act was updated in 2022 to try to ward off another Capitol riot. Swing states are already preparing for unrest and disruption during these meetings.
