(New York, NY) — NYPD cops are looking for a mother who gave birth to a baby girl, and then left her to die in the courtyard of a Bronx building. A contractor discovered the lifeless infant on Wednesday, in the back part of a building on St. Lawrence Avenue with the umbilical cord still attached. Police and EMTs raced to the building, but it was too late for the newborn who died. Detectives believe the baby could have been in the courtyard for a few days
Neighbors say they wished someone had seen the infant sooner so they could save her life. Police say they are looking for a teenager, who likely hid her pregnancy and then dumped the newborn outside the building.
There is a law in New York that allows parents to drop a baby off at a hospital or police and fire station with no questions asked.
