(Morgantown, WV) – New research points to a new, hopeful method toward helping people overcome addiction. It’s known as “brain zapping.” Doctors working with the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University say the results of experiments are promising.
In essence the brain zapping involved goggles and a helmet. The hardware costs $1 million. Utilizing the goggles, images are flashed concerning things people are struggling with. It could be alcohol or drugs. When images associated with cravings are shown, ultrasound waves are pulsed to parts of the brain. The research indicates that can reduce cravings.
Following a trial, around 75% of the participants are substance-free months later. In addition to the work with addiction, there’s some signs the treatment could help reduced symptoms associated with depression.
