(New York, NY) — New York City is going to dramatically expand the number of red light cameras across the five boroughs. Right now there are 150, but Governor Hochul signed legislation this week, giving the green light for the city to put cameras at 600 more intersections.

Hochul says research shows a big drop in crashes at intersections with red light cameras. She also signed legislation that either expands or creates red light camera programs in Albany, White Plains, New Rochelle, Kingston, Greenburgh, and Nassau County.

Governor Hochul also signed another bill this week that increases penalties for drivers illegally passing school buses, and will require all passengers on charter buses over the age of 8 to use seatbelts.
