(New York, NY) — Street walkers in Queens say they are tired of being harassed by cops, and they are now calling on Mayor Adams to make their gigs as prostitutes legal in New York City. A group of prostitutes held a press conference in Queens on Tuesday, detailing how cops have been arresting them for taking part in the world’s oldest profession. Many say they work as escorts to make ends meet in a very expensive city. In recent weeks, City Hall has deployed teams of cops to Jackson Heights to close down brothels and arrests prostitutes.
The street walkers say legalization would make it safer for them and the people that use their services. Just this week, a brothel in Jackson Heights was closed down, but some of the workers were back at it in a different spot one day later.
